THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN KNOWLEGDE AND DIETARY PATTERNS WITH CHRONIC ENERGY DEFICIENCY (CED) AMONG FEMALE ADOLESCENTS AT SMAN 6 KOTA METRO
Abstract
Abstract: Chronic Energy Deficiency (CED) among adolescents is a nutritional problem that has long-term impacts on health and productivity. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between nutritional knowledge and dietary patterns and the incidence of Chronic Energy Deficiency (CED) among adolescents. This study used a quantitative approach with a cross-sectional design. The study population consisted of female students in grades X and XI at a senior high school, totaling 250 students. The sample consisted of 125 female students selected using a purposive sampling technique. Data were collected through a structured questionnaire assessing nutritional knowledge and dietary patterns, as well as anthropometric measurements using Mid-Upper Arm Circumference (MUAC) to determine nutritional status. Data analysis included univariate analysis to describe the proportion of CED among adolescents, the proportion of nutritional knowledge, and dietary patterns. Bivariate analysis was conducted using the chi-square test to determine the relationship between nutritional knowledge and dietary patterns with the incidence of CED among adolescents. The results showed that 36.8% of female students at SMA Negeri 6 Metro City experienced Chronic Energy Deficiency (CED) based on MUAC measurements of <23.5 cm. Most respondents had good dietary patterns, accounting for 70 students (56.0%). There was a statistically significant relationship between nutritional knowledge and the incidence of CED, with an Odds Ratio (OR) of 4.15. Additionally, a statistically significant relationship was found between dietary patterns and the incidence of CED. These findings are expected to serve as a basis for nutritional interventions and educational programs among adolescent girls to prevent CED at an early stage.
