SMART: Journal of English Language Teaching and Applied Linguistics is a peer-reviewed, scientific journal published by LPPM Universitas Muhammadiyah Pringsewu Lampung. The journal publishes both conceptual and research-based articles within the fields of English Language Teaching and Applied Linguistics.
The scopes of the journal include the following topic areas:
- English Language Pedagogy
- English Language Literacy
- English for Specific Purposes
- ELT Materials Development and Evaluation
- English Language Testing and Assessment
- Teaching English to Young Learners
- English Literature
- Language Policy and Planning
- Second Language Acquisition

It published biannually in the months of January and August.
SMART accepting articles that have not been previously published, nor is it under review or consideration for a book chapter or journal publication elsewhere. Manuscripts submitted to SMART should follow the following guidelines:
Manuscript and File Type Manuscript should be written in 1,5 spaced using essay style academic English on A4 paper (with 2,5 cm from all margins) in Microsoft Word program (.doc, .docx, or .rtf), in size 12 of Times New Roman font.

Title, abstract, and keywords
The title of the manuscript submitted to SMART should not exceed of total 15 words typed using Times New Roman size 14, all capital, italic, bold, and center. It followed by an abstract of a maximum of 100 words. The author should also provide 3–5 keywords underneath the abstract using Times New Roman size 11, single-spaced, and Italic.

Format
The article should cover: (a) Title; (b) Author’s name(s), (c) Affiliation(s), and e-mail of Correspondence(s); (c) Abstract, which includes objectives, method, and findings of research; (d) Keywords; (e) Introduction, which includes research objective(s); (f) Research Method; (g) Findings and Discussion; (h) Conclusion; (i) References; and (j) Appendix, if any.

Citations and references
Manuscript submitted to SMART Journal should follow APA style 7th edition for citations and references. In this phase, the use of reference tools, such as Zotero, EndNote, Mendeley, etc. is highly suggested and recommended.

The manuscript should be sent via OJS through our online system:

The author registering first before submitting the manuscript or log in if the author already had the SMART Journal Account to submit the article.

All submitted manuscripts to the SMART journal will be firstly read by the editorial staff. Manuscripts evaluated to be of potential interest to journal readership will be preceded to peer-reviewed process. Throughout the review process, the identity of the author(s), as well as the reviewer(s), will be concealed, so that both sides will not get to know each other. The editors will then make a decision by considering the reviewers’ recommendation with 3 possibilities: decline submission, accept the submission, and revisions required. Please kindly bear in mind that a ‘revisions required’ decision does not guarantee acceptance. The acceptance decision will be made if the editor is satisfied with the revisions made.

The editorial board is permitted to edit the accepted manuscripts to keep format consistency without changing the essence.

Authors whose manuscripts are accepted or rejected will get a notification from the SMART editorial board. The Editorial Board has the authority to return the rejected manuscripts without asserting the causes.
