Abstract

This research focuses on classifying slang utilized by Alpha Gen in the comments of YouTube Shorts memes. The commenting slang vocabularies were collected through documentation techniques and were analyzed by using qualitative descriptive method with sociolinguistics approach. The result shown the comments tend to use go viral words like “skibidi, gedagedigeda, sigma, and rizz” which signify some aspects such as identity and presence in the modern digitalized civilization. It demonstrates the ongoing evolution in the language used by adolescents, showcasing the changes brought by social media, primarily the desire to communicate in a collective, innovative, and situation-specific manner.
