A SCOPING REVIEW: EKSTRAK DAUN BINAHONG UNTUK PENYEMBUHAN LUKA PERINEUM PADA IBU NIFAS

Perineal wounds are a common consequence of vaginal delivery, resulting from
spontaneous tears or episiotomy procedures. If not properly managed, perineal wounds may cause
persistent pain, limited mobility, and increase the risk of infection and postpartum complications.
Conventional perineal wound care generally includes hygiene management and the use of
antibiotics; however, prolonged or inappropriate antibiotic use may contribute to bacterial
resistance and may not optimally support tissue regeneration. The use of herbal medicine as a
complementary therapy has gained increasing attention, including the application of binahong
leaves (Anredera cordifolia), which contain bioactive compounds such as flavonoids, saponins,
tannins, and ascorbic acid. These compounds exhibit antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties
and promote collagen synthesis, thereby accelerating wound healing. Several studies have reported
the effectiveness of binahong leaf extract in improving perineal wound healing outcomes in
postpartum mothers through various formulations. However, the existing evidence remains
scattered and heterogeneous. Therefore, a scoping review is needed to map the available evidence
on the use of binahong leaf extract for perineal wound healing in postpartum mothers and to support
evidence-based midwifery practice.
