Politeness in directive speech acts is an important aspect in students' academic communication, especially in maintaining social relationships and the effectiveness of interactions. This study is motivated by the phenomenon of the use of various directive speech acts in the student environment, both in formal and informal contexts. The main objective of this study is to analyze the forms, functions, and strategies of politeness in directive speech acts used by students in everyday communication. This study uses a qualitative approach by applying the content analysis method. Data were collected through direct observation and interviews with students in the academic environment. Data analysis was carried out by identifying the types of dominant directive speech acts and politeness strategies used in student interactions. The results of the study indicate that directive speech acts with the functions of inviting, suggesting, and advising are the types most often used by students, while directive speech acts with the functions of ordering and prohibiting are used less often because they are considered less polite. In addition, students tend to apply politeness principles such as the use of polite words and more refined intonation to maintain social relationships. This study confirms that politeness in directive speech acts plays an important role in creating harmonious communication in the academic environment and avoiding misunderstandings in student interactions.
