Abstract

The Acehnese people in Lampung have various languages that represent bilingual and multilingual communities. This condition causes code selection in communicating with the Acehnese and non-Acehnese people in Semarang. Specifically, this study aims to describe the factors that influence the language choice of the Acehnese people in the social sphere in Semarang. This study is a qualitative descriptive study that aims to describe the factors of Acehnese language choice in the social sphere in Semarang City. The data collection techniques used in this study were interviews, observations, and documentation. To obtain scientifically accountable data, the triangulation technique of methods and sources was used. The results of the study indicate that there are factors that influence the language choice of the Acehnese people in the social sphere in Semarang, namely (1) age, (2) situation, (3) purpose of speech, (4) subject of speech, and (5) presence of other speech participants (third person).
