Abstract

This study examines the problems and strategies in translating allegory within George Herbert’s “The Pilgrimage” from English into Indonesian. Employing a qualitative descriptive approach, the research focuses on analyzing semantic, syntactic, and aesthetic aspects of both the source text and the target text. The first analysis examines how the translator renders meaning, structure, and poetic form. The second analysis identifies the challenges of non-equivalence and the strategies used to overcome them. This research shows that the translator utilizes a combination of literal translation, interpretation, and rhyme focused strategies to preserve the expressive and aesthetic qualities of the poem.
